Green bus summit fleet award - May 2021

The Transportation Department of Twin Rivers Unified School District has received the Green Bus Summit Pioneer in School Bus Electrification Award from School Transportation News (STN) in affiliation with National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
 
In early April, STN issued a call for nominations for the Green Bus Summit Fleet Awards, seeking school districts and school bus vendors investing in clean fuel and energy for their fleets. There were 12 school districts nominated. Two school districts received awards, and our award was in the large school district category (over 100 buses). 
 
The criteria considered were:
  • Length of time project has been underway
  • NOx (no or low emissions) reduction/pollution reduction
  • Positive environmental impact
  • Community impact
  • Student/driver health
  • Future Outlook
 
Winners were determined were announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2021.   Twin Rivers’ official certificate will be placed in the Transportation office.

Clean Air Champion "Public Fleet" Award - October 2017

The Transportation Department of Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) received the Clean Air Champion “Public Fleet Award” in October of 2017, awarded by The Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition.

The Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition recognized the Transportation Department for their efforts in leading the deployment of the largest fleet of electric school buses in the U.S., improved air quality and the inspiration of others to do the same.  

The Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition works with the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program, a government-industry partnership designed to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector.  Nationwide there are almost 100 coalitions nationwide, with three primary objectives, reduce the use of imported oil, develop regional economic opportunities, and improve air quality.

The Tyler Technologies Company recognized the Transportation Department for their efforts in organizational efficiency and productivity, organizational responsiveness, positive impact on the districts quality and safe transportation of pupils, and implementation of unique innovation.  

It was noted that with the implementation of the Tyler software annual operating costs have been reduced by more than $750,000 and the data generated with the use of this technology produced a “space-map” that was used to secure a $7.5 million grant for electric buses.

The Tyler Technologies Company is the largest company in the country solely dedicated to providing software and service to the public sector, including solutions for state, county and local governments and schools.

Clean Air Award for Sustainability - May 2018

The Transportation Department of Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) received the 2018 Clean Air Award for Sustainability, awarded by Breathe California Sacramento Region.

Breathe California Sacramento Region recognized the Transportation Department for actively affecting positive change in air quality, efforts in daily practices and sustainability leadership. 

Also mentioned, the recent success of the deployment of the largest fleet of electric school buses in the U.S. improved air quality and the positive contribution to society.

Breathe California is one of the oldest and most active nonprofit agencies in the Sacramento area.   In 1917 the Sacramento Society for the Prevention and Cure of Tuberculosis was established and performed community awareness by working with families and children.  With the dramatic decrease in incidents and the new knowledge of lung disease, the focus of the organization changed.   In the 1960’s and early ‘70s the direction was changed as well as the name, today Breathe California Sacramento Region continues its mission dedicated to healthy air and preventing lung and other air-pollution related diseases by partnering with youth, advocating public policy, supporting air pollution research and educating the public.
