The EL Department provides a multitude of services to all TRUSD schools. Our main focus is to contribute to the success of our schools with our great diversity of students. We service 40% of the TRUSD student population.

Do you have a question about supporting your English learner students? Join the ELSD Instructional Support Team for office hours! We are happy to answer questions or talk with you about how best to meet your EL needs, including instructional strategies, lesson planning, etc. We are available to meet with you over Zoom or in person. The English Learner Services Department is happy to introduce the Interactive Newcomer Notebook (INN) to Twin Rivers teachers and staff. The Interactive Newcomer Notebook provides vital information to support Newcomers and their families. Whether you are looking for a curriculum, want to provide language help to families, need to know how to request translations, or want to learn about stages of languages development, it can all be found in the INN, along with so much more.

A streamlined collection of our most frequently requested resources, the TRUSD Digital Newcomer Kit was born out of the extensive effort put into the Interactive Newcomer Notebook (INN). This four-page document contains more than 40 carefully categorized websites and resources to help TK-12 grade teachers with their Newcomers - as well as their more experienced multilingual learners. We recommend looking through the INN prior to using this resource; nevertheless, it is certainly accessible to all readers.
