Physical education is an instructional priority for Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD). At TRUSD, every student, regardless of disability, ethnicity, gender, native language, race, religion, or sexual orientation is entitled to a high-quality physical education program.
The Physical Education Department of TRUSD aims to promote among students a life-long desire to maintain physical fitness. The courses offered by the Department reflect this goal. PE Courses are offered in Grades K-12. All PE Courses offered at TRUSD are activities-based and purposely connected California Physical Education Frameworks and Standards.
Increase fitness levels in students through a well-balanced, standards-based curriculum that emphasizes all forms of fitness, with the understanding that improved fitness levels is positively correlated with elevated academic performance.
Promote fitness in all its forms [cognitive, affective, and psychomotor] among all TRUSD students, including modeling fitness as an essential part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Develop and maintain a student-centered, well-balanced curriculum which is standards-based and activity- and participation-focused.
Encourage development of motor skill competence among students.
Promote the use of a wide variety of assessment strategies for learners of all ability levels.
Enhance student learning of "individual responsibility" and effective "group membership skills."
