Action Steps for Schools to Prevent the Spread of Flu
- Encourage staff and students to wash hands frequently.
- Educate students and staff to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow when coughing or sneezing.
- Send sick students, teachers, and staff home
- Clean surfaces and items with frequent contact (door knobs, keyboards, etc.) Studies have shown that influenza virus can survive on environmental surfaces and can infect a person for 2 to 8 hours after being deposited on the surface.
- Separate sick students until they go home.
- Have masks available for students who become sick while at school.
- Stay in close contact with our local health department
