Did You Know?

TRPD officers attend the same State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) police academies as other law enforcement officers

TRPD has towed 90% fewer vehicles since the new towing and citation policies were put in place in November

Many TRPD officers are former Sacramento Sheriffs

Our school neighborhoods cover 120 square miles -TRPD provide a deterring presence traveling between the multiple school sites they serve

The same number of TRPD officers that were once serving the 14 campuses in the Grant district now patrol more than 50 school campuses

Less than 5% of stops are for minor traffic violations but one recent incident was a mobile methamphetamine lab parked near a school campus

TRPD officers work directly with our students through our Criminal Justice Academy, cyber safety courses, bicycle safety, truancy prevention, gang prevention, and Kops and Kids camp each year

2011 Incident Activity in Summary

  • 2,628 burglary, theft, robbery and stolen vehicle calls
  • 6,644 property, vandalism, trespassing, suspicious person, fire alarm checks
  • 374 missing child, kidnapping, battery, assault, rape, abuse, and indecent exposure calls

We're Listening

We take the safety of our school community and concerns about our police services seriously. That's why we have already made a number of changes and are engaging in an independent review of our services.

Actions implemented and underway

  • TRPD policy changes in the area of citations and towing
  • Change in TRPD leadership
  • Announcement of an independent operational review of TRPD and search for the independent expert consultant.
  • Formation of a Police Services and Safety Advisory Committee that had its first meeting on February 9, with a goal to help strengthen the services that our Police Services provide in order to promote and maintain positive school climate and ensure the highest levels of safety services.

We are listening in a multitude of ways.
We have reached out to staff, community, families, and students on the topic of safety and police services. We are requesting and receiving feedback in meetings, online, in a written survey, and in multiple languages. We know our families work a variety of jobs so we have met during the day and evening in a variety of neighborhoods.
