Your Resource Page for Facilities and Program Changes
In an effort to address severe State budget
cuts while creating programs that build student enrollment, Twin Rivers
communities and staff have engaged in a six-month planning and decision
process. In
April, our Board of
Trustees approved a variety of recommendations that incorporate ideas
and
suggestions from community forums/meetings while addressing our budget
and
enrollment challenges. These suggestions:
- Incorporate the ideas and suggestions from dozens of community forums and meetings
- Create more family choices in each neighborhood
- Create new schools that blend the strengths of our unified district
- Offer K-4, K-5, K-6, K-8, 5-8, 6-8, and 7-8 options to help meet the needs of all families
Part of the promise of unification was to improve options for families while providing quality education for students Kindergarten through 12th grade. In order to allow each neighborhood to retain its unique characteristics, Neighborhood Networks were created. The principals of all of the neighborhood schools work together with a Network Director to improve communication and learning pathways for all students. We will continue to involve our community in
implementation decisions, and post the latest news and information by
neighborhood below:
Foothill Farms Neigborhood Network
- Two schools will be growing from Kindergarten through 6th grade to Kindergarten through 8th grade schools (Pioneer and Oakdale). Next year they will add 7th grade and the year after grow to 8th grade.
- Aero Haven School will be closing at the end of this school year. Aero Haven School's boundary is split between the Foothill Farms and Highlands neighborhoods. The Early Exit Bilingual program that is currently located at Aero Haven will be moved to Madison School. The Aero Haven closure and blending with Madison School results in increased enrollment in our neighborhood.
- Some school boundaries will be adjusted to accommodate the additional students.
North Highlands Neighborhood Network
- Aero Haven Elementary will close and most students will attend a new school at the current Madison campus. Some students live closer to Joyce Elementary and may attend that campus.
- A network of K-6 and K-8 campuses is being created in North Highlands. Boundary will be provided at a North Highlands community meeting on April 29. The new K-8 schools include F. C. Joyce, Kohler, Village, and Ridgepoint. Students at neighboring K-6 schools would attend one of these schools for 7-8th grades.
- Highlands Academy will become the new Highlands High school, transitioning back to a 9-12 campus and adding new engineering and biomedical programs.
- Creative Connections Arts Academy will expand and start a new High School that will start with 7-10th grade students that will become the high school's 9-12th grade students over time.
North Sacramento/Del Paso Heights Neighborhood Network
- Strauch Elementary will become a K-5 campus feeding to a Rio Tierra 6-8 program.
- The neighborhood network is continuing to meet to make additional recommendations.
Rio Linda/Natomas Neighborhood Network
- Dry Creek Elementary becomes a K-4 school next year feeding into a new 5-8 intermediate school housed at the former Rio Linda Junior High campus.
- The new 5-8 Principal will be Maria Sevilla and there is currently a community contest to name the school.
- Rio Linda Elementary campus will close and most students will attend Dry Creek Elementary and the new 5-8 school.
